Free-length limestone

Free-length limestone, also known as limestone flagstones, comes in a set width (500, 550 or 600 mm, depending on the stone) with lengths that vary from piece to piece. Most of our range is available this way, across our tumbled limestone tiles and aged, antiqued and brushed limestone, from 15 to 22 mm thick.

Buying free-length limestone

Free length is sold by area rather than by the piece, in units of 0.25 m². Enter your room's measurements in the calculator on any product page and it rounds up to whole units and shows the price as you type. Typical maximum lengths are around 1,000 to 1,200 mm, though this varies from stone to stone and isn't guaranteed.

Allow extra for cutting: around 5% for simple layouts, 10% for a standard installation and up to 15% for complex or diagonal patterns. The calculator has an optional 10% wastage toggle. Natural stone is quarried in batches, so order enough to finish the job in one go, and ask your installer to work from several crates at once so the natural colour variation spreads evenly across the floor. To check colour first, order up to three limestone samples for £5.

Six of these stones are suitable for external use: Ashford, Cambridge, Hampton Grey, Hampton Olive, Jaipur Heritage and Heritage Grey (in its 22 mm sizes). Their outdoor sizes are on our outdoor limestone tiles page. Read our Internal Natural Stone Laying Guide before work starts.
